Steve victoriousOn December 31 at 9:00 a.m., Piranha Masters and registered guests will participate in the fourth annual 10K (200 lap) swimathon to help raise funds for Angel View at the Palm Springs Swim Center,
405 South Pavilion Way in Palm Springs.
“Several years ago,” recalls Steven T. Erickson, CPA/Managing Partner with Maryanov Madsen Gordon & Campbell in Palm Springs and a member of the Piranha Masters team, “I heard of another Master’s team putting on a 10K swimathon.  It intrigued me and I decided to challenge myself to find out if I could complete that distance. I also thought it would be a great way to build awareness and raise funds for Angel View.”
Erickson posed his idea to Jeff Conwell, Piranha Swim Team CEO, and the Piranha Masters. “Once they learned about Angel View’s mission of helping people with disabilities reach their maximum potential,” he adds, “Jeff and the gang were all onboard.” Despite the grueling physical effort, each year, the number of swimmers committed to challenging themselves to complete the marathon continues to grow, as do the funds raised for Angel View.  Erickson and the team are training hard and looking forward to a successful
4th event.
Swimmers’ workouts are based in yards and intervals are based on the time it takes to swim 100 yards. Those who can keep up a pace of 100-yards (two laps) in one minute and 45 seconds will finish the 10k in just under three hours. Over a half a million yards have been swum so far for Angel View!
“We invite people to sponsor swimmers by the lap, by the yard, or with a donation in honor of the swim,” Erickson says. For more information please contact Steve Erickson at steven@mmgccpa.com or 760-778-8562. Checks should be payable to Angel View.
Swimming has a natural tie to Angel View, which was founded on a natural hot spring in Desert Hot Springs by parent whose children suffered from polio. Today, water therapy still plays an important role in Angel View’s programs. The nonprofit offers 24-hour residential care, a therapeutic Day Program for adults who have graduated from special education classes, and an Outreach Program. Angel View Outreach offers free services and supports to local families who are raising children with disabilities.
