Barbara Sinatra to be the Grand Marshal at the 49th Annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade on October 27
Barbara Sinatra is not just a woman who lends her name to any cause or event. Her passion for making a difference runs deep. It was announced today that she was honored to be asked and graciously accepted the role of Grand Marshal for The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade. The parade is set for Sunday, October 27 at 1pm along beautiful El Paseo Drive. Barbara Sinatra stated, “I am honored to have been chosen as the Grand Marshal of the 49th Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade. I am thrilled to be a part of this valley-wide event and look forward to spending the day with this wonderful community I call my home.”
More than 25 years ago, with the support of her illustrious husband, Frank Sinatra, Barbara began a concentrated effort to raise funds for the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility to provide counseling for children suffering from physical, sexual and emotional abuse. The nonprofit Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center on the campus of Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, CA would also focus on prevention, community education and breaking the generational cycle of abuse. Services would be available regardless of a family’s inability to pay. As a result of Barbara’s direct involvement, and with the support of the community and people throughout the world, the Children’s Center has since become a respected international Voice for victims of child abuse.
In addition to her commitment to the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, Barbara is active in many facets of her desert community. She is a Trustee on the Eisenhower Medical Center Board of Directors and has been active in the Desert Art Museum and McCallum Theatre. She organized several fundraisers for Temple Isaiah, for which she enlisted her husband’s talent and that of entertainment industry friends; they were the driving force in “burning the mortgage” for the St. Louis Catholic Church.
Through Barbara Sinatra’s efforts, more than 18,000 abused children through age 18 have received beneficial therapy, making it possible for them to cope with traumas associated with abuse. The Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center is a vehicle for positive change, and Barbara Sinatra is the inspiration, role model and catalyst for victims to have healthy futures.
According to Mike Hardin, Parade Chairman, “On behalf of the entire parade planning committee of volunteers, we are filled with gratitude to have ‘Lady Blue Eyes’ herself as this year’s Grand Marshal. She has made an instrumental impact on our community through the Children’s Center and the Frank Sinatra Golf Invitational. It is going to be a fantastic family event!” Be sure to mark your calendar now for parade day. The event features include an 8 am Palm Desert Rotary Pancake Breakfast, Golf EXPO and Cart Show at 10 am, Webb Foundation’s Kid’s Play Zone and food and drink vendors both open at 11am, Eisenhower Medical Center’s VIP Seating and Auen Foundation’s FREE Senior Seating (reservations can be made by contacting the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce at (760) 346-6111 or by firstname.lastname@example.org)
