Applications Now Available for Coachella Valley Spotlight
H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation and CBS Local 2 accepting applications for twelve $25,000 grants
The H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation and CBS Local 2 are now accepting applications for the 2013 Coachella Valley Spotlight. All Coachella Valley-based non-profit organizations that have not previously been awarded the Coachella Valley Spotlight are eligible to apply for twelve $25,000 grants that will be awarded throughout 2013. This will be the fifth year of the program that has awarded more than $1 million and hours of television promotion to local organizations.
Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations will be selected by the CBS Local 2 Community Advisory Board. Recipients of the Coachella Valley Spotlight receive a $25,000 grant from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation and are featured on CBS Local 2 in several stories on the station’s community program, “Eye on the Desert,” as well as in public service announcements and on the station’s website, www.cbslocal2.com.
“After already giving to more than 40 local nonprofits, it will be exciting to see the organizations that rise to the top of this year’s applications,” said Ronald Auen, H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation President.
Some past recipients of the Coachella Valley Spotlight include AIDS Assistance, Children’s Playtime Productions, Christopher’s Clubhouse, Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, Gilda’s Club, Mizell Senior Center, Well in the Desert, Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley, Braille Institute, Desert Samaritans for Seniors, Pathfinder Ranch, Olive Crest and many others.
“The Coachella Valley Spotlight was an incredible boost that allowed us to grow in so many ways,” said Mika Moulton, founder of Christopher’s Clubhouse, which received the award in June 2009. “The funding helped our local organization with program costs while the media exposure was priceless.”
“We hear from organizations often about how invaluable the airtime is that they receive as part of the Coachella Valley Spotlight honor,” said Mike Stutz, General Manager of Gulf California Broadcast Company. “We are pleased we can give to these worthy organizations in this way.’”
Applications for the Coachella Valley Spotlight are available at www.cbslocal2.com and are due by 5 p.m., Friday, September 28, 2012. The recipients of the grants will be notified in November. Grants and media exposure will be awarded monthly throughout 2013. For more information call 760-773-0342.
