Inspired to save the lives of Coachella Valley cancer patients, BIGHORN Behind a Miracle (BAM) reached an astounding $1.56 million in fundraising in four short years through a passionate, collaborative effort. In April 2011, BIGHORN BAM presented a check for $500,000 to Eisenhower Medical Center for funds raised throughout the 2010-2011 season. An additional $20,000 check was presented to e Pendleton Foundation, whose organization helps cancer patients with gas cards so they can drive to radiation treatments, or they assist with rent or utilities because the patients cannot work, or grocery gift cards for their families.

Founded by BIGHORN Members to support the Eisenhower Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center and BIGHORN Radiation Oncology Center, BAM marks its fourth year and is considered to be one of the largest private fundraisers benefiting cancer for Eisenhower. “We are overwhelmed! It’s absolutely incredible that in four short years BIGHORN BAM could reach their $1.56 million fundraising mark so quickly,” says Betty Wolf, Vice President, Eisenhower Medical Center Foundation. “It’s a testament to the generosity found throughout the BIGHORN community. BAM’s heartfelt, generous donations have helped Coachella Valley patients fight breast cancer through providing much needed mammogram machines, diagnosis equipment, counseling and transportation services of 3,036 trips 2008-present) for patients receiving radiation treatment who are in need, many who depend on public transportation.”

“BIGHORN Behind a Miracle’s donation to Eisenhower is exciting! We appreciate that BAM tournament organizers decided to donate the proceeds locally to help our community,” says breast imaging specialist Deborah Rubin, MD, Board Certified Radiologist at Eisenhower Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center. “My colleagues at Eisenhower and I are so grateful for these funds, which allow us to have the best medical equipment in order to offer the finest, most state-of-the-art care to all of our patients.”

“BIGHORN Behind A Miracle has proven to be exactly that…a true miracle,” shares BAM Chairwoman Selby Dunham. “I am so proud to keep this money in the desert and benefit Eisenhower’s first class facility and staff as well as the genuine efforts e Pendleton Foundation exhibits with cancer patients who are truly in need. e generosity of the BIGHORN members, their guests and friends is truly extraordinary. Without the enthusiasm and energy of so many volunteers and committee members, none of this would have been possible.”

This is year BIGHORN BAM kicked off with a Holiday Wrap Party with e Shops on El Paseo in December, followed by a Walk for Life with Macy’s and Westfield Palm Desert and a Game Day for Life hosted by Susan Goldfine. In March, BAM hosted a Launch Party, filled with incredible silent auction items and party sponsored by Tommy Bahama. e Cash for Caddies Pairings Party and the BAM Golf Tournament were held April 13 & 14th with the caddies donating their time and staff members giving countless hours to support this very worthy cause.

“I am so excited to give back to Eisenhower,” says Selby Dunham, a breast cancer survivor of six years. “After all, they gave me my life.”
